WARWICK, R.I. -- U.S. Sen. Jack Reed met with health and community leaders at The Kent Center in Warwick to discuss some of the bills introduced this year to improve mental health care.
According to the 2012 National Survey on Drug Use and Health report, Rhode Island had the highest rate of adults suffering from mental illness, 24 percent.
In 2013, Reed has introduced and co-authored several bills to improve mental health treatment, including the following:
-- The Excellence in Mental Health Act
-- The Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act Reauthorization
-- The Mental Health First Aid Act, which would amend the Public Health Service Act
-- The Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Act, which would expand the Mentally Ill Offender Treatment and Crime Reduction Act.
