CRANSTON -- The young rapper whose body was found burning in a historic cemetery last month had been strangled.

The state medical examiner ruled that 22-year-old Gandy "Shad" Kaydea died from ligature strangulation.

Police Col. Marco Palombo Jr. said Monday the investigation was ongoing into the murder of Kaydea, whose body was found near the entrance of the Pocasset Cemetery on March 20.

Kaydea was affiliated with the C-Block gang in Providence, where he lived; the chief has said the murder is believed to be gang related.

Kaydea had been taking GED classes at the Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence and also making rap videos as "Young Shad."

Cranston police ask anyone with information about the murder to call detectives, (401) 942-2211.
