The University of Rhode Island will announce a contract extension for basketball coach Dan Hurley later Friday. The two sides have negotiated an extension for several weeks, but those talks intensified when Rutgers fired coach Mike Rice and targeted Hurley.
ESPN is reporting that Hurley was offered the Rutgers job Monday night and turned it down Wednesday, in part because he was only offered a five-year contract. Hurley has not commented on that report. His extension at URI is reported to be for two years, or through the 2019-20 season.
