PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A teenager was shot in the head and two others were stabbed in unrelated gang violence in the city's West End on Saturday afternoon, the police said.
Sgt. Michael Wheeler, who heads the Providence Police Anti-Gang Unit, said that Cody Nonphala, 19, suffered the gunshot wound to the back of his head around 4 p.m. He said that the teenager was a front-seat passenger in a car that was traveling on Union Avenue toward Route 10.
Also on Saturday afternoon, Samean Meas, 27, was stabbed in the left side of the neck at Cranston and Hanover streets, a hot spot for gang activity. Another man, Viset Keo, 19, was stabbed in a separate attack near the corner of Cranston and Waverly streets.
Police said that none of the wounds are life-threatening.
