WATERTOWN, Mass. (AP) -- The transit police officer severely injured in a shootout with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects as Richard Donohue, 33, MBTA Police Chief Paul MacMillan said.
Donohue joined the department 3 years ago.
Gov. Deval Patrick says Donohue is in surgery at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge.
The officer was critically injured in an early morning shootout Friday with the two suspects in the marathon bombings. One of the suspects was killed.
The MIT officer killed by the men Thursday night has been identified as Sean Collier, 26, of Somerville. Collier had worked at MIT since January 2012. Before that, he was a civilian employee of the Somerville Police Department.
