PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Johnson & Wales University introduced a 2,000-pound, five-foot-tall machine that digests food waste, which will remove 100 percent of waste from the institution's solid waste stream.
The digester is located at the university's Cuisinart Center for Culinary Excellence.
The university plans to add a second $80,000 digester at the Harborside Academic Center to eliminate waste from the culinary labs and dining facilities.
Students were asked to name the machine.
