PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence police are investigating three stabbings overnight. No connection is suspected.
At 1:12 a.m., the police responded to Rhode Island Hospital for a report of a man being treated for stab wounds.
Kevin Mann, 20, Princeton Avenue, had been stabbed twice in the chest, Deputy Police Chief Thomas F. Oates III said.
It's unclear if the stabbing is connected with recent violence in the neighborhood.
At 1:30 a.m., the police again went to Rhode Island Hospital, where George Galindo, 31, of Linwood Avenue was being treated for multiple stab wounds, Oates said.
Galindo said he was watching television at his girlfriend's Arch Street apartment when they were interrupted by Robert Butler, 42, of Veazie Street. Galindo and Butler started fighting and, Oates said, Butler stabbed Galindo several times. He fled on foot.
Galindo's girlfriend drove him to Rhode Island Hospital.
Officer Matthew McGloin spotted Butler just after 3 a.m. near Bridgham Street. He's expected to be arraigned Thursday on a charge of felony assault.
At 4:28 a.m., the police were called to 160 Benedict St. Robert Pi, 60, of that address, told officers he had been walking on Sorrento Street when someone walked up to him and, without saying anything, stabbed him two or three times in the stomach. Pi, Oates said, told officers he could not describe his assailant or say in which direction the person had fled.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said Kevin Mann's stabbing was connected to ongoing violence in the area.
