PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Former state Treasurer Frank Caprio, who relinquished the office after one-term to make an unsuccessful 2010 run for governor, plans to run again for state treasurer, his former communications director Peter Kerwin confirmed Friday.
Caprio declined direct comment Friday morning, but authorized Kerwin to speak on his behalf.
Kerwin said it is his understanding that Democrat Caprio intends to run regardless of what the current treasurer, Democrat Gina Raimondo - who is considered a likely 2014 candidate for governor - decides to do.
"He is going to run for treasurer and take on all comers,'' Kerwin said.
Caprio has been managing director of Chatham Capital since 2011. Before his stint as treasurer, he led North American transactions for Cookson Group plc, a multi-national publicly traded company.
He is a graduate of Harvard where he majored in economics. He also his law degree from Suffolk University Law School.
