A neighborhood watch program in Cranston's Glen Woods neighborhood has paid off.
The Cranston police arrested five people early Saturday on charges of larceny, attempted larceny and conspiracy after a Park Forest Road resident spotted one of the suspects rummaging through the glove box of his car and called 911.
Police responding to the call at 2:50 a.m. stopped a silver Toyota sedan nearby and arrested the five occupants. They also discovered several flashlights, cell phones and other electronic items believed to have been stolen. The arrests came shortly after a neighborhood crime watch meeting in which residents had complained about a rash of recent thefts from vehicles.
Arrested were Alexander Woods, 21, of Chepachet; Alexander Rastelli, 19, of Providence; Jennifer Wholly, 22, of Providence; Kyle Cote, 20, of Providence; and an unidentified 16-year-old juvenile from Lincoln.
