Rep. David N. Cicilline has fallen well behind Republican challenger Brendan Doherty in cash available for the final days of their competitive race in Rhode Island's 1st Congressional District.
Doherty had just under $510,220 left on Oct. 1, more than double Cicilline's cash reserve of $240,963, according their third-quarter federal reports..
Democrat Cicilline held his quarterly fundraising edge but outspent Doherty by $498,351 to $312,949 as he competed on a second front -- September's Democratic primary.
Still, Doherty raised a healthy $213,787 for the quarter, including donations signaling GOP hopes that he can win a district with a heavy Democratic tilt. Donors included the conservative Koch Industries PAC ($5,000), the moderate Republican Main Street PAC ($3,000), and the campaign arm of the House GOP ($5,000).
