PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- A ex-con just out of prison has been sent back again -- accused of stabbing an acquaintance nearly to death because he thought the man stole his cigarettes.
Marquis Lopez, 23, had blood on his hands and shirt when Pawtucket officers found his friend Anthony Santiago, 25, collapsed in the driveway at 30 Warwick Rd., early Wednesday, according to a police report.
Lopez and Jonathan Vanover, 24, told police that Santiago had been stabbed at a Central Falls bar, the report said.
But other witnesses and the bloody scene inside Lopez's apartment gave police a different idea of what happened.
Santiago was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, and Lopez was charged with assault with intent to murder. Vanover was charged with obstruction.
