WARWICK, R.I. -- Don't do it.

Don't throw those burnt-out light bulbs, old pool chemicals, shoe polish, or even Fido's old flea collar in the trash.

Everyday, Rhode Islanders inadvertently or intentionally toss toxins in the trash and the noxious substances end up at the state Central Landfill in Johnston where they could leach into the groundwater.

In order to keep hazardous household materials out of the landfill, the Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation periodically holds special collections called "Eco-Depots."

The next one will be Saturday, Nov. 3, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Warwick Department of Public Works at 925 Sandy Lane.

It is free for Rhode Island residents, but people are asked to schedule their drop off time by visiting ecodepotri.org.
