LINCOLN, R.I. -- An estimated 200 students from the Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral
Academy Middle School were expected to depart their school at 6:30 a.m. Thursday to watch their music teacher play music at an Obama campaign rally in Manchester, N.H.
School officials said that teacher Avi David is part of a band that was invited at the last minute by the Democratic National Committee to perform at the 9 a.m. rally. In a letter to parents Wednesday, organizers disclosed that tickets had been made available for students to watch the President speak and their teacher play.
"Whether you are a supporter of President Obama or not, the opportunity to hear the President of the United States speak in person is truly an extraordinary one," said Head of School Joy Souza.
--An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported the school's band would be playing. The band that the school's music teacher is part of was invited.
