PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- With Election Day less than three weeks away, candidates running in Rhode Island's First Congressional District say they are primed for heavy spending on television advertising.
Republican candidate Brendan Doherty's campaign says it is on track to spend roughly $556,000 on television ads through the election cycle, including more than $200,000 in the final two week push.
Democratic U.S. Rep. David N. Cicilline's campaign, which released its latest ad on Thursday, says it has spent roughly $418,000 on television spots so far -- with more spending on the way.
"We are significantly increasing our presence," Cicilline campaign manager Eric Hyers said, declining to give estimates. "We want a good strong presence, but it's going to depend on what we raise. I can't tell you exactly how much, but it will be a good strong presence."
