PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A fire that is being deemed suspicious caused moderate damage to a three-story, wood-framed house at 10 Ninigret Ave. in the city's West End on Thursday night injuring one of the tenement's five occupants.
Deputy assistant chief Joseph R. Desmarais said firefighters smelled gasoline when they arrived at the house around 8:15 p.m. and are looking into possible arson.
He said one occupant received a burn on her hand, apparently trying to put out the fire, but that three other adults and one child escaped injury. It took about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.
