PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Rhode Island's new Red Sox license plates have arrived.
Gov. Lincoln Chafee, Providence Mayor Angel Taveras and officials from the team plan to present the first 900 plates to motorists on Saturday.
The specialty license plates feature a green background and the team's logo.
The plates cost $41.50 more than standard plates. Twenty dollars of each plate purchased goes to the Red Sox Foundation to benefit a scholarship program for Rhode Island high school students who demonstrate academic success, financial need and a commitment to community service.
Lawmakers approved the new plates in 2011.
