PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- One of the suspects arrested in the racketeering/extortion ring that involved collecting extortion payments from Providence-area strip clubs has agreed to change his plea to guilty, federal and state officials reported Friday.

Theodore "Teddy" Cardillo, 69, a manager of the Cadillac Lounge, was indicted in early March. He will admit to being an associate of the New England La Cosa Nostra enterprise to shake down strip clubs and that he used implied threats of injury, serious damage or death to extort cash, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Peter F. Neronha.

The government will recommend a sentence of 5 years' probation with the first six months on home confinement, the plea agreement said. The parties agreed that he played a minimal role.
