PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A Brockton, Mass., man was arrested early Saturday morning after police officers say they saw him allegedly attacking a homeless man outside a Pine Street nightclub, according to police reports.

The report states that John Gallagher, 20, of 58 Appleton St, Brockton, was arrested for disorderly conduct after the victim said he did not want to press charges.

Two officers working a detail shift at The Colosseum nightclub at 180 Pine St., saw Gallagher repeatedly punching a homeless man who was known to police, the police said.

They said that the victim did not appear to fight back and that when officers intervened, Gallagher took off running and was caught a short distance away.

The victim declined medical treatment, the police said, and Gallagher was taken to the police station.
