WESTERLY, RI -- A 25-year-old Charlestown man was killed early Thursday when his motorcycle struck a stone wall on Shore Road at the intersection with Maplewood Drive.
At 1:20 a.m., Westerly police officers and members of the Westerly Ambulance Corps found a single motorcycle off the road. The operator was near the bike and was pronounced dead by ambulance workers.
Police said it appears that the motorcyclist was traveling north on Maplewood Drive, failed to stop at the intersection with Shore Road, and struck a stone wall on the north side of Shore Road.
The identity of the operator is being withheld pending family notification. Asked whether the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, police said that information was not available.
The crash remains under investigation. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has any information regarding the accident to call the Westerly Police Department, 401-596-2022.
