PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Two shootings early Friday left one man dead and two others wounded, according to police.
An argument at a backyard July 4 party on Henry Street broke out shortly after midnight, said Major David Lapatin of the Providence police, and a disturbance broke out later. At that point, someone pulled out a gun and shot two people, Lapatin said.
One man, described as 20 years old, was pronounced dead in Rhode Island Hospital. Another party-goer was being treated for a gunshot would. Lapatin said their names were being withheld until relatives could be notified.
He said it was not yet clear whether the shooter was someone who attended the party.
In another case, Tyelle Stone, 26, address unavailable, told investigators that he was standing on Sayles Street around 1:30 a.m. when he saw a man with a weapon. Stone said he turned to run, but was shot in the back. He was treated in Rhode Island Hospital.
Lapatin said police cars flooded the area, but could not locate the shooter. He said was difficult because Stone was "uncooperative."
