PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A West End man was assaulted early Sunday morning, and a man who lives around the corner from him has been charged with the crime, the Providence Police Department reported.
At 2:11 a.m., police responded to a 911 hang-up call from 78 Priscilla Ave. Officers found Jose Hernandez, 34, bleeding from cuts on his left forearm and the left side of his neck. Hernandez told police an unknown person called him on his cell phone and asked him to step outside, which Hernandez did.
Officers found a suspect nearby who Hernandez positively identified as the assailant: Ismael Ortiz, 23, of 84 Clarence St., Providence, who was charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon.
