PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A three-alarm fire that began in a third-floor apartment at 8 Bancroft St. displaced 13 people Tuesday night, including the parents of a newborn baby.
Dwayne Thibodeau said he was returning from a trip to the market around 7:15 p.m. when he saw flames shooting out window of the apartment he shares with his fiancée, Ashley Flynn.
It happened that Flynn was at the hospital visiting the couple's son, who was born premature only two weeks ago. The two said it was the second fire in their apartment in less than 10 days, saying that an electrician came to their house on July 1 after an electrical fire damaged part of their kitchen.
Deputy Assistant Fire Chief Dan Crowley said he called a third alarm because of the intense heat firefighters encountered when they entered the building in the city's Silver Lake neighborhood.
