NEWPORT, R.I. -- Salve Regina University has announced that Vice President Joseph Biden will visit the campus on Aug. 22 as part of a celebration honoring the lifetime of service of Nuala Pell, the widow of Rhode Island's former U.S. senior senator, the late Claiborne Pell.
Salve's president, Jane Gerety, said that during the Aug. 22 reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the school will announce the establishment of the Nuala Pell Leadership Program in Public Service.
She said the center will sponsor opportunities for undergraduates to participate in national leadership seminars, meet prominent policymakers and hear scholars involved in shaping international strategies Democratic U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse joined with Gerety in announcing the vice-president's visit.
