PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- Five women were arrested early Wednesday morning in a prostitution sweep on Dexter Street.

Pawtucket Police Maj. Arthur Martins said the crackdown was prompted by complaints and patrol officers who noticed more streetwalkers lingering on Dexter Street, particularly in the early-morning hours.

Martins said that officers posing as "johns" were soon flagged down by the five women. Most of the five had long records of drugs, prostitution, and property crime charges.

Diana Szczepanek, 24, of 246 Japonica St.; Fernanda Landim, 35, of 287 Admiral St., Providence; Holly Viviera Martins, 30, of 85 Pawtucket St.; Eugenia Gomes, 36, of 492 Weeden St.; and Kerri Moul, 45, of 10 Westwood Manor Drive, Providence, were charged with prostitution.

Moul pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 90 days.
