PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A Lincoln man arrested as a fugitive from justice on a murder charge in Massachusetts waived his right to appeal extradition Monday, court officials confirmed.

Willie Wilkerson, 27, of 1200 Lonsdale Ave., was ordered held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston after an appearance in Providence District Court. A status conference was scheduled for Wednesday

Wilkerson was arrested at home Sunday morning in connection to the September 2011 killing of Kristopher Rosa, 23, of Avon, Mass.

Rosa, the Norfolk District Attorney's Office said in a news release, was shot to death while driving on Central Street in Avon. His girlfriend, a passenger in the car, was not injured. She drove Rosa to the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, where he was pronounced dead, the authorities said. Rosa is survived by a son.

Rhandisyn Lawrence of Stoughton, Mass., also faces murder charges stemming from the fatal shooting. Lawrence has pleaded not guilty, according to the Associated Press.
Rosa's was the first homicide in Avon in 15 years, the AP reported.

"I commend members of the Rhode Island State Police Major Crimes Unit, Violent Fugitive Task Force, Lincoln Woods Barracks, the Massachusetts State Police, the United States Marshals, the Lincoln Police Department, and the Providence Police Department on the flawless apprehension of Mr. Willie Wilkerson, who is a violent career criminal," Col. Steven G. O'Donnell, superintendent of the state police, said in a news release.
