PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A boarded-up multifamily house in South Providence is a home for illegal guns shared by the M.O.P. street gang, according to the Providence police.
Early Sunday, police said, they found gang members and a loaded handgun at 23 Croyland Road -- for the second time in six days.
As Officer David Harrington and Detective Nicholas Ludovici approached a crowd of young men on the front porch, conversation stopped and one man, David Disla, 20, turned away from them, according to a police report. When another police cruiser rolled up, Disla ran away -- while holding his waistband.
The officers chased Disla behind the house, where they said they saw him toss a 9mm gun into the bushes. The police caught Disla behind Bailey Elementary School.
Disla, of no permanent address, was arraigned Monday on a charge of carrying a firearm without a license and held on surety bail.
Although Disla wasn't identified as a gang member, the other six young men on the porch are members of M.O.P., said Major David Lapatin.
