ATTLEBORO, Mass. -- A judge granted a prosecution motion Wednesday to continue a probable cause hearing on why Aaron Hernandez, the jailed former-Patriots star charged with first-degree murder, should continue to be held for 30 days.
District Court Judge Daniel O'Shea also granted a motion by the media to release arrest and search warrants connected to the case. Those records will be released Thursday at 3 p.m.
Hernandez is accused of killing Boston semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd in June. Hernandez has pleaded not guilty.
Charles Rankin, Hernandez's attorney, said he was very upset because the prosecutors were not ready Wednesday to move ahead with the probable cause hearing.
The hearing would have marked the first occasion on which the Commonwealth would have had to produce witnesses and evidence to show there was probable cause to allow the murder case to continue.
Rankin said the delay meant that defense attorneys would have to wait another 30 days in order to challenge what case the prosecutors had against Hernandez.
The hearing was continued until Aug. 22.
