PORTSMOUTH, R.I. -- The police have issued an amber alert for a Portsmouth teenager who has been missing since Wednesday morning.
Kathryn Botelho, 13, of 59 Ferry Landing Circle, was described as four feet, eleven inches tall and weighing 110 pounds. She wore an Alex and Ani bracelet. Her clothing was not described.
Interim police chief Jeffrey Furtado said, "These types of cases can be anything but routine when it's a person of this age" who had been gone so long.
Her mother came back from an errand at 9:30 a.m. and found the girl her missing, Furtado said.
State troopers with K-9 dogs joined Portsmouth officers as they searched the area.
State police said Kathryn was last seen leaving her house with an unknown man who was 40-50 years old and driving a Chrysler.
Ewerton Afonso, 26, of Fall River was working with a landscaping crew near the girl's house on Ferry Landing Circle, a condominium development near the Mt. Hope Bridge, said he saw the girl leaving in a red Chrysler.
Police on the scene have asked the media to maintain a distance from the girl's house. A couple of neighbors gathered nearby.
