TAUNTON, MA. -- July broke the record for warmest average temperature for any July in Rhode Island, the National Weather Service forecasting office reported on its Facebook page
This July's average high was 78.4 degrees. Coming in second-closest was 77.5 degrees in 2010 and third was 76.6 degrees in 1983.
Rhode Island's average, as measured at the airport in Warwick, was hotter than the hottest Julys in Boston, Hartford or Worcester.
The normal average temperature for a Rhode Island July is 73.5, the weather service said.
