PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- The Pawtucket police are searching for a man who tried to hold up one gas station and succeeded in robbing another one a few blocks away Thursday night.
The man demanded money from a clerk at the Shell gas station at 1414 Newport Ave. around 9 p.m., said Pawtucket Police Maj. Arthur Martins. When the clerk told him the police were right outside, the man hung around for a minute, then left in a red convertible with a white top, Martins said.
No car was seen when, a half-hour later, the same man showed up at the Getty gas station at 1197 Newport Ave. and walked in with a gun in his waistband, Martins said. This clerk saw the gun and handed cash to the robber, who ran off, Martins said.
The robber, who didn't wear a mask, appeared to be about 30 years old, about 5 foot 8 inches tall, 200 pounds, wearing a T-shirt that said 'Obey.'
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to cal Pawtucket police (401) 727-9100, Detective Chris Lefort ext. 789 or Detective Donna Joyal ext. 725.
