PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- A local man has been charged with robbing one gas station twice and trying to rob another last week.

A man with a gun in his waistband stole money from the Getty Station on 1197 Newport Ave. on July 27 and again on Aug. 1.

The Pawtucket police say the same man also tried to rob the Shell station at 1414 Newport Ave. on Aug. 1, but got discouraged and left when the clerk told him, falsely, that the police were right outside.

There was no gun seen at the Shell station, but there was a distinctive get-away car -- a red convertible with a white top that the would-be robber used to flee.

That car -- and the robber's lack of a disguise -- led police to arrest 24-year-old Eris Bernard Fabre Martinez on Friday on three first-degree robbery charges.

A police captain happened to see the convertible parked at a house on Benjamin Street, and then found Martinez, who was visiting a friend, police said in a statement Monday. Martinez, who lives at 205 Harrison St., was also wanted by Superior Court on a bench warrant on domestic violence charges.

He was arraigned Monday on the robbery charges and held without bail.
