PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- One man is in custody, while another is still wanted after a police raid on a house in Mount Hope turned up two stolen guns, drugs, and thousands of dollars in cash.
Detectives Martin Hames and John Bento had spent two weeks investigating 22-year-old Jeffrey Perry, who they believed was running a drug operation from his first-floor apartment at 197-201 Pleasant St.
Perry was out when the police searched the apartment Thursday afternoon, but an alleged conspirator, Jamal Lomba, 23, was in a bedroom. Lomba told the police that a loaded .44 caliber revolver wrapped in a T-shirt in a bedroom dresser belonged to him, according to a police report. The firearm had actually been stolen from Johnston.
Lomba denied knowing anything about the loaded .45 caliber Colt handgun also in the house; that gun had been stolen from Glocester, according to the police.
In their search of the apartment and Perry's car, the narcotics detectives reported seizing two jars containing 13.5 grams of marijuana, three bags containing a total of 35.6 grams of cocaine, and $5,401 cash, as well as drug packaging material.
Lomba was charged with seven drug and firearms felonies; he was arraigned Friday and ordered held without bail.
The police have also issued a warrant charging Perry with drug and firearm felonies, Capt. Anthony Sauro said Monday.
