PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A citywide action plan to improve education from "cradle to career" was unveiled Wednesday.
Eleven factors will be measured to track Providence's progress -- such as the percentage of students in summer learning activities; how many are chronically absent; and the high school graduation rate.
"If you're not measuring it, there's no way to evaluate it," said Mayor Angel Taveras at Wednesday's news conference.
The report outlining the plan was written by the Providence Children Youth Cabinet, an organization reconvened by the mayor. The mostly volunteer cabinet will produce a progress report annually and help the city and School Department with executing its plan.
Rebecca Boxx, its first executive director, was also introduced Wednesday.
