PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Roger Williams University will partner with the state's Economic Development Corporation to help revitalize urban communities in the state, with the initial efforts concentrating on Woonsocket and Providence.
Governor Chafee, Providence Mayor Angel Taveras, Woonsocket Mayor Leo Fontaine and Roger Williams University president Donald J. Farish are scheduled to formally announce the partnership Thursday morning at the State House.
Under the arrangement, students and faculty from the university's Community Partnerships Center will participate in projects in the two cities.
Students in such subjects as law, architecture, construction management, business and historic rehabiliation will contribute expertise, while gaining valuable real-world experience in return.
