PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The National Weather Service has issued a flash-flood watch for all of Rhode Island, parts of Southeastern and Eastern Massachusetts until 9 p.m.
The weather service says "widespread rain with embedded heavier showers and thunderstorms" could cause flooding in small streams and areas with poor drainage.
The rain could fall at rates in excess of 1 inch per hour. Some areas could get more than 4 inches in total.
A flash flood watch means that conditions could develop that lead to flash flooding, the weather service says.
