WARWICK, R.I. -- City officials say they are optimistic that the historic mill building that fronts the former Leviton Manufacturing property on Jefferson Boulevard can be preserved despite the prospect of the site being redeveloped.
They said that there has been concern in recent months since Leviton is trying to sell the roughly 85-acre parcel and at least one potential buyer is looking to demolish the three-story, sprawling brick mill building.
"We have long recognized the historical importance of the Elizabeth Mill Building," Mayor Scott Avedisian said. "We've been trying to cobble together an arrangement that allows us to preserve the structure while also working with the needs of the Leviton family and I think we're on the path to doing that."
