PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A 28-year-old man who is accused of shooting and killing two Johnston women early Sunday morning was armed with a .357 magnum when Providence police arrested him late Sunday, Judge Robert K. Pirraglia said Wednesday morning in District Court, Providence.
A police prosecutor told Pirraglia that the suspect, Daniel Rodriguez, was in possession of five spent shell casings when Providence police wrestled him into custody at the Elmhurst Extended Care at 50 Maude St.
Rodriguez was arraigned Tuesday in District Court, Kent County, on a list of charges brought by Johnston police that included kidnapping, burglary, discharging a firearm in a crime of violence, and two counts of murder.
He appeared before Pirraglia on Wednesday morning to answer to two charges brought by Providence police: carrying a pistol without a permit and altering identification markings on a firearm.
Rodriguez is already being held without bail in the Johnston case. In the Providence case, Pirraglia set bail at $25,000 with surety. Rodriguez's next court date was scheduled for Oct. 18.
