WARWICK, R.I. -- In July, for the fifth consecutive month, more passengers used T.F. Green Airport this year than the same month the preceding year, Kelly Fredericks, president of the state agency that runs the airport, reported at a board meeting Wednesday afternoon.
That marks the first time the airport has seen five straight months of improvement since September 2005, which marked the end of an 18 month winning streak.
The airport also has seen an increase in the number of travelers passing through its gates for the first seven months of 2013 compared to the same time last year. That's the first time that has been true in July since 2005.
In July this year, the airport handled 356,974 passengers, up 4 percent from 342,922 in July 2012. So far this year, the airport has seen 2,197,884 passengers, and increase of 3 percent from the first seven months of 2012, when 2,138,157 used Green.
The airport is on a pace to serve 3.75 million passengers this year. It would have to post a yearly gain of nearly 10 percent to reach 4 million passengers for the first year since 2009.
