LITTLE COMPTON, R.I. -- St. Andrew's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church will host a screening of the documentary film "Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North" Thursday at 7 p.m. at its church at 182 Willow Ave.
The film follows filmmaker Katrina Browne and nine of her cousins as they delve into how their DeWolf family ancestors in Bristol became the largest slave-trading family in U.S. history, enriching themselves by trafficking human beings from the late 18th to early 19th centuries.
Dain Perry, one of the nine cousins, and his wife, Constance, a descendent of slaves, will facilitate a conversation after the film on race, reconciliation and healing.
The event is free, with a reception held afterwards.
