Sandywoods in Tiverton wins architectural award

All the rental buildings at Sandywoods are eco-friendly with small footprints, facing front porches and large basements for artist's studios.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Sandywoods Farm in Tiverton is one of five winners nationwide to receive the 2013 John M. Clancy Award for Socially Responsible Housing from the Boston Society of Architects.

Sandywoods Farm, designed by Union Studio architects of Providence and developed by Church Community Housing Corporation, includes eco-friendly long-term affordable homes for renters and homeowners, a community garden, and an arts center.

Sandywoods was partly financed by the Building Homes Rhode Island program.

Award criteria include design excellence, livability, sustainability and community design.
