NARRAGANSETT, R.I. -- A long-disputed proposal to expand docking at Champlin's Marina on Block Island was dealt a blow on Monday by the Coastal Resources Management Council, when it essentially reaffirmed a 2011 vote it took against the plans.
The council, however, had been ordered by a Superior Court judge to revisit the case and allow Champlin's to argue that its plans for Great Salt Pond should be approved because the council had permitted an expansion at nearby Payne's Marina.
Having held several hearings this year on that narrow issue, the council met at Narragansett Town Hall and voted 6-2 against Champlin's proposal.
The council concluded "that there was no disparate treatment between the two marinas and that the decision was made on a rationale basis," said Vice Chairman Paul Lemont.
