PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A motorist, who allegedly tried to run over a police officer on the city's South Side, led the police on a chase through at least two cities Tuesday night before he was apprehended after a contingent of Pawtucket police forced his car to a stop on southbound Route 95 around 9:45 p.m.
Providence police Lt. Richard Fernades said the suspect managed to elude the police on the outset, but that the police were able to track his car into Cranston and then Pawtucket based on reports from OnStar.
The chase picked up again when Pawtucket police began following the car up Newport Avenue toward the Massachusetts state line, and then on southbound Route 95 back to Providence, where the chase ended at the Route 6/Route 10 split opposite the Providence Place Mall.
