PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- A man claiming to be a gang member was arrested after he allegedly threatened and punched a 65-year-old woman who told him to stop fighting outside her house.
Ann Santos heard a commotion outside her house on Alverson Avenue just before midnight Thursday and saw three men fighting in the middle of the street, according to a police report. She asked them to leave and be quiet -- but the three men and their pit bull turned on her, witnesses told police.
The report said that one of the men, Carlos Chamorro, 22,of 582 Plainfield St., told Santos to mind her own business, adding, "We are MS-13. We will burn down your [expletive] house."
Santos didn't back down and repeated her request that they leave. Chamorro jumped her fence, repeated his threat, and then punched her in the face, witnesses told police.
Other people jumped in and held Chamorro down until police arrived. Maj. David Lapatin said that Chamorro is a member of MS-13. He had been out on probation since pleading no contest to drug possession charges in May.
Chamorro was charged with felony assault on a person over 60 and held on surety bail at his arraignment at District Court on Friday. A judge also ordered Chamorro not to have any contact with Santos.
