PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Judge Robert G. Harbour of Attleboro District Court Friday refused to consider a motion filed by lawyers for Aaron Hernandez that if granted would have restricted the prosecution's investigation tactics.
Lawyers for the former Patriots player accused of murder had filed a motion accusing police investigators of misleading a witness in the case when they questioned him.
The witness, a Connecticut prison inmate named Everett Garcia, told defense lawyers that the police who interviewed him on Aug. 5 had claimed they were trying to "help out" Hernandez. The defense claimed that behavior was unethical and had asked the judge to issue an injunction preventing the prosecution from using such tactics again.
In a court proceeding that reportedly lasted only a few minutes, the judge declined to consider the motions and issued no order.
Hernandez has been indicted in the execution-style slaying of Odin L. Lloyd in North Attleboro on June 17 in an industrial area near Hernandez's $1.3-million home in North Attleboro. He has been jailed since his arrest on June 26.
