PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The police are searching for two men who attacked and raped a pregnant woman on a street in Silver Lake.

The 23-year-old woman told police that she was walking to a local store on Pocasset Avenue around 8 p.m. Sunday when she passed two men on the sidewalk.

One asked her in Spanish for the time, and when she said she didn't know, they began to follow her, according to a police report.

She told police that she was frightened, so she cut across Murray Street, heading toward Ethan Street, but when she came around the corner, they were waiting for her. One told her in Spanish, "When I ask you the time, you tell me," and then threw her on the ground, holding her down as the other man raped her, according to a police report.

She told police she screamed and tried to fight, as the men fought over her. She said she got away when a vehicle pulled up and honked its horn, sending the men running down Ethan Street, the report said.

Maj. David Lapatin said the police are investigating the crime and paying special attention to the neighborhood where the woman was attacked. There have been no similar reports in the area, he said.

The men were described as 5 foot 5 to 5 foot 8, thin builds, in their 30s, with crew-cut hair, and wearing blue shirts, jeans, and work boots.
