PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Brown University is set to welcome incoming students and formally start the new school year at the annual convocation.
President Christina Paxson will officially open the university's 250th academic year at a convocation ceremony on Tuesday afternoon. The Ivy League school is welcoming 1,537 freshmen, 639 graduate students, 120 medical students, and 70 transfer students.
The convocation ceremony will start with the traditional march by students through the Van Wickle Gates onto the College Green.
History professor Omer Bartov will deliver the opening address on "Education, Power and Conformism."
Members of the class of 2017 come from 47 U.S. states and 66 countries.
