PORTSMOUTH, R.I. -- A New York investment firm has bought Hunt Yachts, the Portsmouth-based builder of powerboats. Hunt Yachts announced the sale to Scout Partners on Tuesday.
Hunt Yachts is not the first boat builder purchased by the firm. In 2010, Scout Partners bought The Hinckley Company, the Maine builder of luxury yachts. Hunt and Hinckley will operate as sister companies, according to a news release announcing the sale.
"I could not have designed a better stage for the future of Hunt Yachts' brand, legacy and products than this new ownership and partnership with Scout Partners and Hinckley," Hunt president Peter Van Lancker said in a statement.
Hunt will maintain its name and continue to be the exclusive designer of the C. Raymond Hunt Associates product line.
