WESTERLY, R.I. -- It was beginning fee like a ghost town here as darkness and an eerie quiet settled in on a business district that had lost power Monday because of the storm.
One of the few remaining lights that continued to shine came through the front glass door of Reale's Grocery at 122 High St.
Leo Moroso, the owner of the third-generation family-owned business, was using a generator to keep his food refrigerated.
He said he was glad that he had the generator, which he got in anticipation of the floods of 2010. He thinks he could lose potentially $4,000 in perishable food items.
Though he closed his store at 3 p.m. Monday, he said he was keeping the light on to ward off intruders.
"I won't lose sleep over it, but the idea is to keep someone with the thought of breaking in to not break in," he explained.
