NORTH PROVIDENCE -- Hurricane-generated winds downed power lines and trees across North Providence on Monday, said Fire Chief Leonard Albanese Jr.
Albanese reported about a dozen incidents, including two cases that demanded greater attention from firefighters.
"It's just a mess," Albanese said.
Just before 4:44 p.m., a pine tree snapped 13,800 volt power line on Whipple Court, said Albanese, adding that the force snapped a telephone pole a short distance down the street.
Earlier in the day, along Hope Street, the wind was strong enough to snap a pole in half, Albanese said. A fallen tree snapped one pole and displaced three others in the area.
About 39 North Providence households were without power, Albanese said.
