BRISTOL, R.I. -- Power was restored to lower Hope Street and Ferry Road area at about 6:15 p.m.

Hope Street between High Street (Lobster Pot Restaurant) and Wood Street was closed because Tanyard Brook flooded the roadway, despite a major flood abatement program.

Walker's Cover, on the east side of the entrance to Bristol Harbor, is flooding backyards on Hope Street and Ferry Road. Water was already higher at 5:30 p.m., three hours before high tide, than it was for the 8:30 a.m. high tide. At least one dock is under water.

During a drive through Bristol from 4 to 5:15 p.m., the Mount Hope Bridge was still passable but lightly traveled. High winds from the east buffeted cars at the top. They made the ride feel a bit like a rollercoaster. Butterflies.

Whitecaps and waves blew across Mount Hope Bay and battered the east shore of Bristol Neck where Roger Williams University is located. Farther north, at The Narrows and the entrance to the Kickemuit River, waves pounded the shore. A few spectators parked and watched.
